IMMIGRANT ENTREPRENEUR

My crew and I got an up-close look at the growth and life of an Asian immigrant entrepreneur in Toronto. The interview asks questions based on Ren's (the interviewee) experience of his start-up business and tells the audience about the crises, opportunities, and interesting life he has encountered along the way through Walk&Talk format.

My initial purpose in trying to contact Ren and interview him was simple. I was surrounded by peers who try to start their own businesses as they are about to graduate from college. It was a great opportunity to convey Ren's advice to Asian immigrants who are also looking for a chance to start their own businesses for the first time.

If this interview video does help those who are stuck in the fog at the beginning of their career, then my premier goal of shooting has been fulfilled already.

KEEPING UP WITH THE
CO-OP STUDENTS

“The Way to Work Term” (2021) is a documentary that focuses on the co-op experience of two international students at UTSC. This documentary explores unique challenges international students in the co-operative education program faced and what they’ve gained along the journey.

Diya and Xiaohan are two UTSC students who are enrolled in the Co-operative education program. One point that makes them unique is that they need to find a job and complete an 8-12--month work term as part of their graduation requirement.

Unlike most of their peers, Diya chose to pursue a major in City Studies and Xiaohan chose Health Policy, instead of the popular ones such as Business, Computer Science, Engineering, and etc.

SEE YOU TOMORROW

See You Tomorrow is a drama/mystery film. One year ago, Giselle (PROTAGONIST) had a fatal car accident, which also took the life of her beloved younger sister Gianna forever. Being stuck in deep grief, Giselle accidentally finds a magical product (ANTAGONIST) that can revive the person that she misses the most. However, just like everything created by human beings, this product also has an expiration date (CONFLICT). After Giselle and her sister meet again, she discovers a shocking secret about herself.

This microfilm can be said as a milestone on my primary shooting path. My crew and I had to face the tough issues of bad weather, lack of funds and experience while shooting. However, I am still very proud of this work. It has witnessed my growth, and meanwhile, most importantly, it represents my perspective of farewell. Repeatedly practicing and getting used to parting is a necessary lesson in people's lives.

Although, I believe the best way to say goodbye is to say, "see you tomorrow".
